Sphinx Pose
(Salamba Bhujangasana)

Coming into Sphinx Pose
1. Come and lie down on your belly
2. Bring your elbows underneath or slightly in front of your shoulders, about shoulder-width apart.
3. Let your forearms rest comfortably on the mat and allow your shoulders to soften away from your ears.
Supported Options
🌙 If you’d like a little more height, you can place a block or bolster underneath your elbows. Let your chest rise gently without forcing the movement.
🕯️If your neck feels tired, you can support your head with your hands, or use one or more blocks at a comfortable height.
🕯️Find a position where you can soften. Relax your legs, your glutes, your belly, and let your breath slow and become natural.
🌿Lift the head, or let the head drop down, doesn’t matter.
🕯️We are targeting the lumbar spine and the sacrum.
🕯️If the body does open up and you are invited to go deeper, you might beable, to bring more height underneath the elbows and support yourself more.
🌿 There is nowhere you need to go. Find the version of the pose that feels right for your body today.
🌙Now, to come out, lower yourself down, nice and slow.
🌙Turn your head to one side; you can rest your cheek on your palms.
🌙If you still feel there’s some compression in your lower back.
🌙You can draw the knee up beside you, whatever you’re looking.
Benefits
🍃 Sphinx Pose is a gentle backbend that encourages a soft opening through the chest and heart space. By creating more space across the front of the body, it can support deeper, more comfortable breathing and gently mobilise the spine.
✨ Encourages focus, stillness, and mental clarity.
